Cucumber Melon is one of our lightest lotions — a fast-absorbing hand and body lotion for people who want moisture without a film left behind. Here is what is actually in it, and how to get the most out of it.
What is in it
Five ingredients do the work:
- Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter — the base. Rich, but whipped light enough that it does not sit on the surface.
- Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil — a heavier oil that softens without heaviness in this proportion.
- Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil — technically a wax ester, and closer to skin’s own sebum than most oils, which is why it absorbs quickly.
- Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil — light and fast-sinking.
- Tocopherol (Vitamin E) — helps keep the oils from going rancid.
One honest note on the name: cucumber melon is the scent. There is no cucumber juice or melon extract in the bottle, and any lotion claiming otherwise is stretching it — fruit water in a lotion would need far more preservative than this one carries. What you get is a clean, green-sweet fragrance over a simple oil blend.
How to use it so it actually works
Apply to slightly damp skin, straight out of the shower or after washing your hands. Lotion works partly by slowing water loss, so putting it on skin that still holds a little water gets you more out of the same amount.
A pea-sized amount covers both hands. For elbows, knees and heels, use more and give it a moment before dressing.
Why a light lotion, and when to choose something richer
A light lotion suits hands you wash twenty times a day, summer skin, and anyone who dislikes the feel of a heavy cream. It layers well under sleeves without transferring.
If your skin is very dry in a Winnipeg February, a lighter lotion may not be enough on its own. Our Body Butter or a lotion bar will hold longer on hands and heels. Neither is better — they suit different weather.
The refill pouch
This one comes in a 100 ml refill pouch rather than a bottle, so you can top up a pump you already own instead of buying another one. It also travels better than glass.
