I'm Celeste. I make everything in the Pure Wash line myself, by hand, in our studio at 2082 Ness Avenue in Winnipeg. I started Pure Wash because I wanted bath and body products with short, honest ingredient lists — the kind you can read on the back of the label and actually understand.

Every batch is mixed, poured, cut and wrapped here in Manitoba, in quantities small enough that I know what went into each one. Nothing is made in volume somewhere else and relabelled. When you ask a question about a bar or a bottle, you are asking the person who made it.

Why cold-process soap is different

Cold-process soap keeps its natural glycerin. Glycerin forms on its own while the soap is made, and commercial manufacturers extract it from their bars and sell it on for other uses. In our soap it simply stays where it is, because we never take it out.

Each bar then cures for four to six weeks before it reaches the shelf. Curing lets the water evaporate, so the finished bar is harder, milder and lasts longer in your shower. It is slow, unglamorous work, and it is the whole reason the soap is worth making by hand.

The shop on Ness Avenue

The shop is more than our own line. Under the Artisan Studio banner we stock over 25 other Canadian makers — small independent brands whose work we use ourselves and are glad to stand behind.

We also run a refill station in store. Bring a clean container, we weigh it empty, you fill what you need, and you pay by weight. It is a straightforward way to buy the things you use often without buying another bottle each time.
